The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources accredits laboratories to perform aqueous (non-potable water), solid and drinking water testing for many of the agency’s environmental programs. Certified and registered laboratories must meet all the criteria outlined in Ch. NR 149, Wis. Adm. Code.

Vapor Intrusion: DOD Utility Study, Resources in Spanish and Concerns with TCE
DOD Utility Study
The DNR recently learned about a recent study on vapor migration within utilities. The study, funded by the Department of Defense Environmental Security Technology Certification Program (ESTCP), is titled Sewers and Utility Tunnels as Preferential Pathways for Volatile Organic Compound Migration into Buildings; Risk Factors and Investigation Protocol.

Nov. 19 Deadline for State Letter of Acknowledgment for EPA ARC Grants
If your community or organization intends to apply for an EPA 2020 Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund or Cleanup (ARC) Grant, EPA requires grant applicants, excluding tribal environmental authorities, to obtain a letter from the Wisconsin DNR acknowledging that the state is aware the applicant is applying for a federal grant to conduct brownfield assessment, revolving loan fund or cleanup activities.

RR Program Seeks to Hire Complex Sites Expert
The Wisconsin DNR Remediation and Redevelopment Program is hiring a Hydrogeologist to act as the agency’s Complex Sites Expert. The position can be based in Madison (Central Office), Green Bay, Milwaukee, Oshkosh or Superior. Optional locations may be Fitchburg, Waukesha or Eau Claire.

NR 700 – 754 Rules Meeting on November 6
On November 6, 2019, the Remediation and Redevelopment (RR) Program will host a meeting to provide information and seek input on the development of revisions to select provisions of Wis. Admin. Code chs. NR 700–799, Environmental Protection – Investigation and Remediation of Environmental Contamination.
The meeting is part of a series of rule development meetings that the RR program will host as it develops proposed rule revisions. The November 6 meeting will include:

The Department of Natural Resources is hiring a Regional Program Supervisor within the Remediation and Redevelopment (RR) Program.
This position will be located in Waukesha or Milwaukee County, depending on program needs. The deadline to apply is October 13, 2019.

Reminder: Closure Packet Revision Submittals
The Remediation and Redevelopment (RR) Program reminds consultants that when submitting revisions to a closure submittal as requested by the DNR project manager, the consultant need only submit the revised pages to the DNR project manager via the Document Submittal Portal.

Soyer named RR Program’s Policy, Program Ops Director
Jenna Soyer has accepted a position as the Remediation and Redevelopment (RR) Program’s new Policy and Program Operations Director (PPOD), effective September 1.
PPOD duties will include overseeing the development of annual RR work plans, sponsoring policy work groups, overseeing program performance metrics, responding to media and legislative requests, and coordinating cross-program and cross-division projects.
